Since we moved to Western North Carolina almost 3 years ago, we have been trying to discover all the beautiful places around us.

This past Memorial Day, we decided to visit Purchase Knob.

We didn’t know what we were getting ourselves into, and it can be scary sometimes, as we are definitely not in the greatest of shapes.  It was an almost 2 miles hike uphill but at the end, the views were more than worth it.

At 5086 ft of elevation, Purchase Knob stands out in the profile of mountains in this area. Views of the Cumberland Plateau, the Black Mountains, Pisgah National Forest and of course the Smokies can be had from atop.

The air is so pure, the sky so blue and the silence is soothing…

You can see the Ferguson Cabin from the deck of the house. The cabin, built in the early 1870’s, was inhabited until 1902. Sitting at an elevation of 4700 ft, it is now the highest cabin in the park. It is fully restored and in great condition…
